Swan Oyster Depot

Swan Oyster Depot

Russian Hill, SF, CA

Here's another one of those joints that you'll find in many SF guide books.
It's a place that some people rave about while others say "what's all the fuss?" It's teeny tiny. 15-20 stool lined up against a long bar. It's packed all the time with a mix of locals and tourists.
Todd loves it, but then again, he loves oysters. I cannot personally vouch for the oysters, as I'm sure you are aware, but he says they are fantastic. The chowder is marginal, but the seafood salad is quite fresh and delicious. In recent years they've started charging a small amount for sourdough bread, which is simply, lame. Another note? Cash only kids.
Swan Oyster Depot has been run by the same family for decades. And in all honesty, that's what I really like about the place - the vibe. Good guys (and it is all guys) serving simple honest food.
We go once every time we're in the city.
